What is R.I.C.E. Club?

The main focus of RICE (Removing Illiteracy through Collective Education) is to eradicate illiteracy. RICE strives to break the cycle of poverty by funding education for the underprivileged. RICE is affiliated with Ekal Vidyalaya, a non-profit organization which funds and builds schools for marginalized children in rural and tribal India and Nepal. The affiliation with Ekal provides RICE the infrastructure to operate and join hands in the mission to eradicate illiteracy. RICE also strives to help spur development in rural areas and help the elderly through local volunteering. Our club members - students and officers alike, devote their time and resources to funding (through fundraisers and charity events) education for the youth of society in order to eradicate the issue of illiteracy that besets the lesser-developed regions of the world. The objective is to devote attention to the significant percentage of the worldwide youth population who, due to literacy-related problems, are unable to work and actively participate in society.
